A medication order is the written or electronic instruction from a qualified clinician that allows a pharmacy to supply a specific medicine at a set dose and frequency.
It names the medicine, the strength, how often to take it and how much to supply. Many ADHD stimulants are controlled drugs, so stricter rules apply to the quantity supplied and to how long the order stays valid.
In our medication route, our psychiatrist approves whether medication is suitable and supports you through titration, the period of adjusting the dose. Once you are stable, ongoing supply may move to your GP under shared care. Whether a GP agrees to shared care is their decision.
Keep a note of the medicine name and the brand. For long-acting ADHD medication the brand matters, because brands release the medicine differently across the day.
