Randomised controlled trial (RCT)
A randomised controlled trial is a study where participants are assigned by chance to receive either the treatment being tested or a comparison, such as a placebo or usual care.
Receptor
A receptor is a protein on a cell that a specific chemical such as a neurotransmitter or hormone attaches to, which changes the cell's activity.
Retrospective study
A retrospective study looks back at information that already exists, such as medical records or people's memories, to look for links between past events and current outcomes.
Reuptake
Reuptake is the process where a nerve cell takes back a neurotransmitter it has released, which ends that signal.
