S
Sample (of individuals)
A sample is the group of people who take part in a study, chosen from a larger population so the results can tell us something about that population.
Secondary consequences of ADHD
Secondary consequences of ADHD are the difficulties that build up when ADHD goes unidentified or unsupported, such as anxiety, low self-esteem, job loss or debt.
Significance (statistical)
Statistical significance is a measure of how unlikely a study's result would be if there were really no effect, usually reported as a p-value.
Standard deviation (SD)
Standard deviation is a measure of how spread out a set of numbers is around their average, with a larger standard deviation meaning the values vary more.
Substance use disorders
Substance use disorders are conditions where use of alcohol, drugs or other substances continues despite causing harm to health, work, relationships or daily life.
Sustained-release drug
A sustained-release drug is a formulation that releases its active ingredient gradually, so one dose lasts longer than an immediate-release version of the same medicine.
Systemic approaches
Systemic approaches are therapies that look at a person within their relationships and settings, such as family, partner or workplace, rather than only at the individual.
