Capsule
A capsule is a medicine contained in a small shell, usually made of gelatine or a plant-based material, that dissolves in the stomach or gut after swallowing.
Cardinal symptoms
Cardinal symptoms are the main features that define a condition and that a clinician looks for first when deciding whether a diagnosis fits.
Case study
A case study is a detailed description of one person, family or group, used in research or training to show how a condition presents or how a treatment went.
Clinical trial
A clinical trial is a research study in people that tests whether a treatment is safe and whether it works, following a written plan reviewed by an ethics committee.
Cognitive behavioural approaches and therapies (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT, is a structured talking therapy that looks at how thoughts, feelings and actions affect each other and builds practical strategies for daily life.
Comorbidity (co-occurring conditions)
Comorbidity means two or more conditions present in the same person at the same time, such as ADHD and anxiety, or autism and ADHD together.
Conduct disorder
Conduct disorder is a diagnosis given mainly to children and teenagers who show a repeated, long-lasting pattern of breaking major rules or harming people, animals or property.
Cross-sectional study
A cross-sectional study collects information from a group of people at one point in time, to describe how common something is or how two things relate.
